Dental Implant Placement
Dental implants are made from three parts: the titanium post that serves as an artificial tooth root; the dental implant restoration that serves as the visible replacement tooth; the abutment which connects these two. Because the other two components must rest on the post, the first step to reconstructing a smile with missing teeth is to have our Temeculadentist surgically place the titanium post into the jaw.
Dr. Patino is able to place the titanium posts with utmost precision because of our use of a CT scanner. By taking a full 3-D image of your dentition, she can clearly see where your dental implants need to go into the jaw. Using this preplanned map, our Temecula dentist then places the implant posts. The titanium posts integrate and fuse into the jawbone during a two-week healing period, becoming as supportive as actual tooth roots in the process.
Dental Implant Restoration
Once the implants are completely fused to the jaw, Dr. Patino can then add the dental restoration.
Depending on how many implant posts were placed and how many missing teeth need to be replaced, our Temecula dentist will outfit you with a restoration that looks, feels, and works like natural teeth. A CEREC-produced porcelain crown can be added to a single implant if only one tooth requires replacement. Alternatively, we can use CEREC to produce a porcelain fixed bridge which can replace a row of missing teeth, supported by two to six implants. Implant-supported dentures can replace either multiple missing teeth throughout the mouth as a partial denture or a full arch of teeth as a full denture. Crowns and bridges serve as permanent replacements, while the implant-supported dentures are secured in place, but not permanently attached to, the implants for a more secure bite.
Regardless of which restoration you receive, the end result of a dental implant restoration is a beautiful, natural-looking and perfectly functional smile.
